This article provides best practices for naming your devices on the Kaiterra Web App Dashboard. There is also a Bulk Device Upload, which makes adding multiple devices easy!
Using proper naming conventions for your Kaiterra Dashboard IAQ monitors is essential for maintaining the organization of your building. While smaller projects might get away with naming their rooms "Kitchen" and "Conference Room", larger projects, buildings, and multi-building portfolios might ask "Which kitchen?" or "Which conference room?"
We also have a "Bulk Device Upload" feature, which makes it easy for projects to add multiple devices at once! We recommend using this bulk device upload feature for larger buildings/projects -- which is outlined at the end of this article.
Here are our best practice recommendations for naming your devices:
1. Start with a Building Name
Start with a short form of the building name. This is particularly useful if you manage multiple buildings on your dashboard, as it allows for easy filtering by building name.
Example: CRB
2. Include a Floor Number
Include the floor number next. This helps in pinpointing the device's location within the building.
Example: 6
3. State the Room Name
The room name is crucial for identifying the exact location of the IAQ monitor.
Depending on the building, it can be a simple designation like "Conference Room A" or it could be a more unique identifier, such as naming the room after historical landmarks, band names, etc.
Example: Aerosmith
4. Finish with the Room Type
Lastly, specify the type of room where the device is installed. This aids in filtering air quality results based on different room types and completes the naming convention.
Example: meeting_room
Combining all elements, a comprehensive device name looks like this:
CRB-6-Aerosmith-Meeting_Room
This format indicates that the device is located in the CRB building, on the 6th floor, in the Aerosmith Meeting Room. Following this naming convention ensures that you can easily manage and monitor your IAQ devices across various buildings and rooms.
Bulk Device Upload
The Kaiterra Web App Dashboard also supports Bulk Device CSV Upload, where you can fill out a CSV file with the corresponding information and upload all your devices at once!
This is a great way to mass capture + upload your building's deployment data, ensuring no critical information is missed.
